Car component manufacturer Nifco UK has recently been awarded the official ISO 50001 certification for its commitment to energy management and reduction, the Plastics & Rubber Weekly (PRW) website reports.

ISO 50001 is an energy management certificate and is awarded based on the measures a company takes to reduce their energy usage. It provides a framework for businesses to create an energy efficiency policy, as well as continually improve their energy management.

In line with the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme Regulations 2014, the Eaglescliffe-based firm has been awarded the energy efficiency standard and is now committed to reducing its energy consumption on a year-on-year basis.
Commenting on the ISO 50001 certification, Mike Matthews - Nifco UK's managing director and European operations manager - said the organisation was "delighted" at the news.

"Reaching this standard is great recognition of the work we have done to ensure we minimise the impact we have on the environment," he stated, "and provides a strong sense of just how far we have come since we moved from our old, inefficient factory, to one that has been designed to be as energy-efficient as possible."

He also noted the energy intensive nature of the manufacturing industry, urging other businesses to take steps towards reducing their energy usage wherever possible, "not only for financial savings for the business, but [...] to reduce the industry's carbon footprint."

This latest award adds to Nifco UK's existing green policies; over the past decade the company has made huge efforts to reduce waste across the business and has achieved zero waste to landfill for over seven years.
